Decision Tarot Spread — Path A, Path B and the Hidden Factor

The crossroads spread is the most practical layout in tarot because it does not pretend to know the outcome. It compares what each path tends to bring with it, then adds the one thing this kind of decision usually turns on: the factor sitting outside the comparison.

That third card is what makes the spread worth doing. Most stuck decisions are not stuck because the two options are evenly matched. They are stuck because something unnamed — money, someone else's opinion, a fear of being the one who ends it — is quietly weighting one side.

How to lay it out

1. Write both options as complete sentences first. "Stay" and "leave" are not options — "stay another six months and renegotiate" and "leave in the new year" are.
2. Draw all three at once and turn them together.
3. Read the hidden factor before you compare A and B. It often changes what A and B even mean.
4. End by naming what you would need to know to decide. Sometimes the honest answer of a decision spread is "not yet, and here is what is missing".

A worked example

Question: Do I stay in this job another year or start applying now?

Four of Pentacles for staying, Eight of Cups for applying, The Moon as the hidden factor. Read together: staying is being held onto for security rather than chosen, leaving would be a quiet departure rather than a dramatic one — and the hidden factor is that you are working from an incomplete picture. That last card does not veto either path; it says the most valuable next step is getting one concrete piece of information before committing to either.

No, and a reading that appeared to would be doing you a disservice. What a decision spread does is lay out what each path tends to carry and surface the factor you have been leaving out. The choice stays yours, which is the only place it can usefully sit.

Notice the reaction before you re-draw. Wanting to re-pull for one specific position is usually the clearest information in the whole reading, and it is about you rather than about the card.
