The 56 cards that describe the texture of a situation — the week, the conversation, the bill, the effort.
If the Major Arcana describe the chapter, the Minor Arcana describe what is actually happening inside it. Fifty-six cards across four suits, each running Ace to Ten with four court cards on top. They are the working half of the deck, and in a practical reading they usually carry more of the useful detail.
The suits are the fastest thing to learn and the most useful thing to notice. Wands deal with energy and action — whether you are moving or only intending to. Cups deal with feeling and connection. Swords deal with thought, communication and the story you are telling yourself, which is why they show up so often around anxiety. Pentacles deal with the material: work, money, the body, time.
When one suit dominates a multi-card reading, that is worth more than any single card in it. Three Swords across a spread says the situation is being processed largely in your head. Three Pentacles says the practical constraints are doing more work than the feelings are. That is a pattern you can check yourself against the cards on the table.

How many Minor Arcana cards are there?
Fifty-six: four suits of fourteen cards each. Every suit runs Ace through Ten, then Page, Knight, Queen and King — the four court cards.
What do the four tarot suits mean?
Wands deal with energy, drive and action. Cups deal with emotion, connection and what you value. Swords deal with thought, communication and internal conflict. Pentacles deal with work, money, the body and time.
What do court cards mean in a reading?
Court cards can describe a person, an approach, or a stance you are being invited to take. Reading them only as "a tall dark stranger" wastes them. Read as approaches they are far more useful: the King of Swords is a way of deciding, not a man.
Do the numbers in the Minor Arcana mean anything?
Loosely, and it is a useful shorthand rather than a rule. Aces are beginnings, twos are pairs and choices, threes are early growth, fours are stability, fives are friction, sixes are movement or recognition, sevens are assessment, eights are effort or constraint, nines are near-completion, tens are the full expression of the suit.
